  1.             NN-TK MAIN WINDOW
  2.  
  3. The main window is divided into the article menu and article display,
  4. with the group list window optionally attached to left side.
  5.  
  6. For a lot of nn functions that require a dialog a popup will
  7. appear at the top of the main menu and provide text based
  8. interaction, it also provides progress reporting for various
  9. activities such a decoding uuencoded articles.
  10.  Some functions such as posting have their own specialized popups.
  11.  
  12. The are small square handles on the borders between the panels and
  13. these can be dragged with the left mouse button to change the relative
  14. size of the panels. These changes can be save with the "Save window
  15. geometry" menu option, the exception is the border between the article
  16. display and group menu panels, those changes will only be saved if the
  17. middle mouse button is used to do the dragging.

  19. ARTICLE SELECTION
  20. Articles can be selected either by normal nn methods (the
  21. characters a-z 0-9) or by the left mouse button. Dragging 
  22. with the button depressed selects a range of articles.

  24. The right mouse button selects an article and goes into
  25. immediate read mode
  26.  
  27. TOP ROW
  28. The top row of buttons (apart from quit) are popup menus.
  29.     Groups     -cascading menus of all news groups. 
  30.     setup    -nn-tk configuration menu 
  31.                Save Window Geometry - save the size/position of any currently
  32.                      displayed windows 
  33.                Key bindings    -  Set the key bindings for the EXMH simple
  34.                      editor and Entry widget
  35.                Exmh options      -  set the EXMH options associated with MIME
  36.           NN-TK    ...      -  nn-tk config options
  37.                NN variables       - alter nn variables, these changes are stored
  38.                      in ~/.nn/tk-init-nn and override the settings
  39.                      in ~/.nn/init. The nn variables are split into
  40.                      a number of groups. The (all) is to access all
  41.                      the nn variables and the (modified) for just 
  42.                      those that are different from the default
  43.                USER command menu -define labels and commands for user-c menu
  44.           Color Group List  -mark groups in the group list the names of 
  45.                     which contain specified substrings with 
  46.                     colors
  47.     article -functions related to single articles, including posting
  48.          and mailing, processing and saving articles, displaying
  49.          full headers etc.
  50.     menu    -functions related to article selection menu, including
  51.           sorting of articles, consolidating articles with the same
  52.           subject, selecting articles etc
  53.     functs  -nn functions for previous messages, kill/select, cancel,
  54.          unsubscribing and for displaying group and folder windows
  55.     USER    -user definable menu
  56.     info    -access the nn help system, nn-tk and nn info, various nn
  57.           internal info, exmh compose character info and the nn
  58.           man page
  59.     C    -Button for canceling NNTP fetches

  62. MIDDLE ROW
  63. The middle row of buttons are related to the articles menu panel
  64.     PrevG      -return to previous group read
  65.     <      -previous page of article menu
  66.     =      -return to article selection menu mode
  67.     >      -next page of article menu
  68.     read/skip -read items if any have been selected otherwise
  69.             skip group
  70.     nextG      -leave group while not marking the articles as read
  71.     PAGE      -same as the NN space key, pages through articles, 
  72.             pages through article menu, if at end do a read/skip

  74. NOTE
  75. This version of NN is still somewhat modal, if there is a dark highlighted
  76. article in the the article menu NN is in reading mode, otherwise it is in
  77. article selection mode. The = button goes from article mode to menu mode.
  78. It is generally not necessary

  80. BOTTOM ROW
  81. The bottom row of buttons deal with the article display.
  82.     /      -search forward in the article 
  83.           -entry widget for search string
  84.     \      -search backwards in article
  85.     Mono      -toggle mono-space font for article
  86.     n-subj    -skip articles in with current subject
  87.     previous  -previous article
  88.     next      -skip current article
